English Grammar Number and Noun and The Number

Definition of Number: If a Noun tells about one or more than one is called Number.

Examples of Number:

  • A Boy, A Girl, A Pen, A Table all is denoted only one.
  • Boys, Girls, Pens, Tables- All is denoted more than one.

Kinds of Number

  • Singular Number
  • Plural Number

Singular Number: If a Noun Tells about only one, it is called Singular Number.

Examples of Singular Number: A Student, A Woman

Plural Number: If a Noun Tells about more than one, It is called Plural Number.

Examples of Plural Numbers: Students, Women

Note: This is most important for all English grammar to exam and aspirant level.

Rules for changing a Singular into Plural Number:

Rule1. Generally किसी भी Noun के last में ‘s’ जोड़कर  Plural बनाया  जाता है।

Rule2.   यदि किसी Singular Common Noun का last letter ‘s’, ‘ss’, ‘sh’, ‘ch’ (च) हो, तो ‘es’ जोड़कर  Plural बनाया  जाता है।

Rule3. यदि किसी Singular Common Noun का last letter ‘y’हो और y के पहले Consonant हो, तो y को हटाकर ‘ies’ जोड़कर Plural बनाया जाता है।
